After your morning flight from mainland Ecuador to Baltra Island, you will meet your Naturalist Guide and travel to Santa Cruz Island.

On the way, we will have the first visit to El Chato Tortoises Reserve located 680 feet above sea level close to the town of Santa Rosa. This place provides important attractions due to its climate and vegetation where the famous “Galapagos” giant tortoises live in their natural habitat. We can watch the tortoises relaxing in a natural lagoon. Also, this is where many of the island’s wild birds nest, such as Darwin Finches, Vermilion Flycatcher, Yellow Warblers and others. During the visit to this reserve we´ll see a natural lava tunnel, which we can explore inside.

In the morning, we are going to embark by speed boat with a local tour Guide to one of the most astonishing snorkeling locations in the Galapagos Islands. A series of lava flows have created hundreds of arches and tunnels, both above and below the water. The water is shallow, calm and very clear, as a sea sanctuary. Los Tuneles are a field of lava tunnels that have been exposed to and subsequently flooded by ocean movements. You can walk along the lava formations before snorkeling through this unique marine environment. In this place we can see some green sea turtles, white-tipped sharks, several rays, blue footed boobies and occasionally penguins.

When you get back home, you can spend time on the beach near to the town. Dinner on your own

A further kind of morphological faults is represented by the classic Pit Craters, which are giant sink-holes that were never eruptive. These formed when smaller subterranean magma chambers or gas containing areas were emptied and the roofs collapsed. The area accumulations exposed of alternating aa and pahoehoe flows of around 64 to about 120 meters. The two collapses are separated by only a few meters.
